SERDP DATA MATRIX: Marine Mammal Survey Data by Month and Guild for Eastern USA<br> 8/8/2005, bbest<br> <br> overview of process:<br> one-time: - took EEZ of Eastern US waters to determine bounding box of analysis (LATMAX=45, LATMIN=20, LONMIN=-100, LONMAX=-65, LATMAX=45) semi-automated (serdp_datamatrix_tables.py): - queried for all SEAMAP datasets (including published) overlapping this extent - extracted distinct species with Order=Cetacea - matched all these taxa into -> species_guilds - collated all observation (-> serdp_obs) and effort (-> serdp_eff) fully automated (serdp_datamatrix_plots.py): - looped through guild and month to produce data matrix of maps - n is for observations, not # of individuals, summed by guild and month - summed effort hours by month - darkened subplot background by number of observations (n): black: n < 10 dark grey: n >= 10 & < 50 light grey: n >= 50 & < 100 white: n >= 100 to do: print reports: - species <-> guilds with # obs - datasets with # obs, temporal extent, region 45 datasets, see distinct_datasets.csv (*.sql) additional products: - convert into exploratory ArcMap serdp_obs and serdp_eff geodatabase - geoprocess species distribution polygons by guild for overlap and unmatched areas - redo map matrix, joining to datasets table and coloring effort by boat vs. aerial - redo map matrix, coloring observations by species members within guild - redo map matrix, coloring observations by SST/SSH/Chl RS coverage (date), check CZCS for CETAP - run sampling of RS, and predictive models (GAM, GLM, CART) per guild/month - report significant variables, variance explained, and confidence interval - implement OVERLAP SQL statement when looping through date intervals and associated datasets
